Reflection

Reflection,

A thing that is a consequence of or arises from something else.

The proposal came from my thought process of what could be site

specific. I considered the actual fair structure in itself, and the

simple idea of a mirrored floor.

I was attracted by its gimmicky appeal to a Smart Phone obsessed

public. Most public gatherings have unfortunately became a way for

the individual to validate ones social identity through selfie

postings, and sometimes overtake the event in itself .The

obsession with social media is something I have no connection

with and I find both disgusting and fascinating .

Placing a mirrored floor would instigate a photo opportunity

frenzy .

Looking at ones own and others upside down reflections provokes

in the viewer many instant reactions from self consciousness to

curiosity to vertigo.

Our posture has even started to evolve as we are now constantly

looking down instead of up due to compulsive telephone use.

The installation itself will be using a space provided mimicking the

fair structure with empty walls and a mirrored floor, an empty fair

within the fair.
